Employees Devote 20,000 Hours To Good Causes
Kind-hearted employees from companies across Nottinghamshire have spent more than 20,000 hours helping good causes this year, it was revealed today.
Under the Nottinghamshire Cares scheme around 30 major businesses have given 2,000 employees the chance to volunteer on a variety of projects.
The companies have also provided work-placement opportunities and training programmes for people who face barriers to employment.
More than 300 volunteers have been helping children improve their literacy skills and giving them breakfast each morning.
Others have given up work time to help local groups with activities including painting, gardening and trips to the seaside.
Nottinghamshire Cares manager Jackie Fuller said: "This has been a fantastic year. Employers across the county are recognising the value of giving employees time off to volunteer in their local communities.
"The impact as a collective group of companies is enormous and has made a huge difference to the community organisations we have worked with."
Nottinghamshire Cares is a volunteering programme run by the charity Business in the Community.Companies taking part in the initiative include the Boots Group, Freeth Cartwright LLP, Cattles PLC, Gala Coral Group, XMA Ltd, Experian, E.ON and Capital One.
