Gala Coral Group Rewards Its Outstanding Staff Who Helped Raise Over £1.2m For Charity
The Gala Coral Group applauded its employees' substantial contribution to the local community and business performance at its annual staff awards on Friday, 9th February 2007. The company announced at its 2007 ceremony that staff and customers had raised more than £1 million for the cancer charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and £200,000 for the NSPCC.
Neil Goulden, Chief Executive of Gala Coral Group says, "We are the UK's largest privately owned company and much of our success is due to the efforts of our dedicated and talented staff and of course all of our customers. These awards celebrate Gala Coral Group's success and recognise the hard work of all of Gala Coral Group's management teams which are integrated across the business.
"I am incredibly proud of our staff, especially their commitment to the community which is key to our business philosophy. With Comic Relief a matter of weeks away I am really looking forward to learning about how much Gala Bingo, galabingo.co.uk and Gala TV will manage to raise. Having already raised £15,000 for Comic Relief to date I am hoping we can exceed our own target of £150,000."
Almost 1,000 people attended Gala Coral Group's first fully integrated awards dinner which recognised the exceptional efforts of its staff and customers across Gala Coral Group's four divisions, Gala Casino, Gala Bingo, Gala E-commerce and Coral.
Jeremy Hughes Chief Executive, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, adds, "The total amount of money raised by Gala Coral Group for Breakthrough from 2003 is now more than £1million, which is incredible. This outstanding achievement is even more vital this year, at a time when more than 44,000 women are developing breast cancer annually in the UK. All of us at Breakthrough Breast Cancer are exceptionally grateful for Gala Coral Group and their customer's continual, loyal support."
Gala Coral Group is one of 700 top UK companies who are involved in the Business in the Communities organization, a unique charity committed to improving positive impact on society. Gala Coral Group focuses its activities within the Cares Partnership, Business in the Community's national campaign to engage employees in their communities through volunteering.
Seventeen awards were handed out by Goulden to winners across a range of categories including The CEO Award. The Chairman's Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community was presented by Chairman John Kelly to Dean Brackenbury, general manager Gala Bingo Leeds. Dean was recognised as a leading advocate in community engagement, with his Chairman role in the Leeds Cares business community group, part of the Business in the Community (BITC) charity, working with local business to make a difference through volunteering. He also leads his Gala Bingo team in fundraising activities and interacting with the local community through weekly readings at local schools, in club charity fundraising, running fun bingo sessions for local patients and residents in care homes.
